Pinpoint Taxidermy is a professional waterfowl and upland bird studio that opened in 2025 looking to serve the central Wisconsin area. Our taxidermist Caden Hyer took a course that focused solely on bird taxidermy from the multi world champion taxidermist Jerry Froelich. He is looking to use the skills and practice he gained there to bring your bird mount dreams to life.

Yes, we specialize in waterfowl and upland birds. We feel focusing on one type of animal when doing taxidermy allows us to stay the most up to date on the latest techniques and ways to make our mounts look more lifelike.
We get this question a lot. Here at Pinpoint we do our best to restore and mount your birds to the highest quality we can from what you bring us. Birds can be covered in blood, have broken wings or bills and we can usually fix that no problem. Ultimately our taxidermist will assess your bird when you bring it in and let you know what we can do.
We highly recommend the company "Tagged and Bagged" for their bird preservation kits. They come with everything you need to preserve your mount in the field and an instructional step by step right in the bag. If you don't want to buy one of those though here are a few tips and tricks.
- Keep your bird out of direct sunlight to the best of your ability
- Tuck the head of the bird under one of it's wings or onto it's back so that the neck is not out straight
- Wet a cloth or paper towel and wrap the head, feet and bill of the bird making sure the feathers are laying flat against the body and the cloth isn't pulling up on the feathers away from the skin.
- Bag your bird or birds in an air tight plastic bag and squeeze out the extra air. Then freeze as soon as possible
